Soop Cemetery

This cemetery is located in Belleville, MI and is apparently one of the most active cemeteries in the state. This place is well-known for it's ghostly apparitions, including orbs, vortexes, voices, cold spots, shadowy figures, and various full apparitions. Back in 1968, a probable victim of serial killer John Norman-Collins was found here with two gunshot wounds to the head, a stocking wrapped around her neck and her body left on a grave. Also, there is supposedly the grave of a witch named Elizabeth from the early 1800's.
The common myth about Elizabeth Soop is that she is a black witch who enjoys scaring visitors in the afterlife. It is believed that she did indeed practice witchcraft however, her living ancestors who keep the family history have no record of it (according to a report on Ghostzoo.com). If you look for Elizabeth, you will find there ar two Elizabeth Soop's buried in this cemetery. The Elizabeth who is reported to be a witch is located near the rear of the cemetery next to the tombstone of Frederick.
Soop Cemetery was originated around 1800 and is also apparently referred to sometimes as Butler Cemetery or Denton Cemetery. These are two different cemeteries (Butler being located in Westland, MI). Soop is now referred to as Pleasantville Cemetery but is still known as Soop because of the prevalent Soop family buried there.
Stories abound about groundskeepers who have noticed odd phenomena, especially around the witch's grave, reports of a menacing growling sound have been reported when entering the cemetery at night, and other reports of voices and strange sounds are fairly common here. By all reports, this is a site with a lot of unusual phenomena and there are many success stories as far as getting this phenomena on film and on tape. We shall see when our team goes out there to investigate.

Denton Cemetery
Saturday, June 10, 2006 following Soop investigation
This cemetery which lies not far from Soop Cemetery is also well known for its hauntings. It is said that if you listen around 12am you will hear a baby cry and screams from children. There have also been reports of strange stuff appearing on video cameras - although we have not seen this evidence yet. The ghosts of a mother and child are said to haunt a nearby bridge where they were murdered. Ghost lights are seen near the bridge and in the cemetery.
While many stories report that a body was found in Soop Cemetery (as legend is told above), actual reports indicate that the body was found in Denton Cemetery. The body found was of one Jane Mixer who was killed in 1969 and, although suspected as one of the victims of the Co-ed Killer, the M.O. on this victim was different for she was shot insteada of being stabbed. It is believed John Norman Collins was responsible for Jane's death as well as others, he was only tried and convicted for the murder of Karen Sue Beineman. However, there is DNA evidence uncovered in November 2004 implicating another man for Jane's murder - one Gary Earl Leiterman who was tried and convicted. A photo of where the body was found in Denton Cemetery can be seen here. A red X marks the spot!
